In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, I took a new look at the man, his place in history,
and what we can learn from him now, almost 49 years after his assassination. Martin Luther King, Jr.
was instrumental in the passage of both the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that outlawed discrimination based
on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin; and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 that prohibits racial
discrimination in voting.
